Himachal Pradesh floods kill 20 in 48 hours, block 1,000 routes.

20 people have been
killed in rain-related accidents in Himachal Pradesh in the previous 48 hours,
and up to 4,000 crore in damage has been predicted.

Constant rain has
caused flash floods and landslides throughout Himachal Pradesh, leaving many
tourists stuck and wreaking havoc on the state’s roads and infrastructure.

The
administration, according to Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Deputy
Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri on Tuesday, is working diligently to restore
road transport and electricity supply, and they anticipate a return to normalcy
within the next 72 hours. About 20 people have been killed in the state over
the previous 48 hours due to the monsoon chaos, and between 3,000 crore and
4,000 crore worth of damage has been done to infrastructure.

Recent
updates on the Himalayan Floods

1.   
The deputy commissioner of Kullu stated
in a Facebook post on Wednesday that connectivity to the Kasol/Parvati valley
is anticipated to be restored tonight or early tomorrow morning. He also stated
that connectivity to the villages of Sainj and Tirthan is being restored on a
“war footing.” Previously, he had reported that these regions had limited
connectivity; however, everyone is safe and no incidents have been reported
thus far. More than a thousand roads are inaccessible as a result of the
current situation.

2.   
On Tuesday, CM Sukhu flew over the
damaged areas and said that six helicopters would be used to rescue stranded
citizens and visitors. Shimla was only one of many places that experienced
disruptions in water supply and connectivity.

Meanwhile, there have been reports of 15
stranded Russian tourists in Kasol, and attempts are being made to reach them.
The Russian embassy informed the Himachal Pradesh acting DGP Satwant Atwal
Trivedi that 15 tourists are stuck in Kasol. They are attempting to make
contact, and once they do, we will let the embassy know how things are going.

Officials also reported that tourist
vehicles stranded in Lahaul were evacuated last night, while Sukhu reported
that a total of 2,000 stranded individuals in Kasol have been evacuated to date.
The Sadar Vyas Relief Camp has been established to help the trapped with
accommodations made for 200 to 300 individuals.

Many people were unable to reach their
friends and family members because of connectivity concerns and turned to
social media to spread the word of their status. On Tuesday, state police
also distributed contact numbers, asking the public for information about the
last known location or place of stay for loved ones who got stuck in the state.

The monsoon trough is interacting in an
unexpected way with a western disturbance, causing the nonstop rainfall.
Therefore, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Haryana in northern India
are devastated by the monsoons.

7.   
On Tuesday, the India Meteorological
Department issued a warning that some areas of the country will be seeing
“moderate to heavy rainfall” over the next few days. Rains are
expected to increase across Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh starting tomorrow,
according to the weather service.
