ICMR Report found no relation between Covid vaccination and death among young adults
A study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) found that young adults in India who received the COVID-19 vaccination did not have an increased risk of unexpected deaths.
According to the study, prior hospitalization for COVID-19 as well as specific behaviors like binge drinking and vigorous physical activity right before death did raise the likelihood of these outcomes.
People should avoid intense workout
The multicentric matched case-control study, titled "Factors associated with sudden deaths among adults aged 18-45 years in India," is undergoing peer review and has not yet been published. According to official sources, it was finished earlier this month, on Monday.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya stated in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on Sunday, citing the ICMR study, that people who had previously experienced a severe case of Covid should refrain from overexerting for a year or two to prevent heart attacks and cardiac arrests.
Purpose of the study
The researchers investigated after receiving anecdotal reports of sudden deaths among young adults in India who were in good health. According to the sources, there were worries that the deaths could have something to do with COVID-19 or the vaccination against the illness.
The goal of the study was to find out what causes sudden, inexplicable deaths of young, healthy adults in India. The study included cases of sudden, unexplained deaths from unidentified causes in apparently healthy individuals (18–45 years old) between October 1, 2021, and March 31, 2023.
Comparison made between two different groups
According to the sources, four matched controls were chosen for each case based on factors including age, gender, and location. 729 cases and 2,916 controls were enrolled by the investigators, who then collected data from both groups regarding medical history, lifestyle choices (such as smoking, drinking, and engaging in intense physical activity), hospitalization for COVID-19, and vaccination history.
