The Immigration and Foreigners Bill 2025 was passed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. During this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah talked about taking strict steps regarding illegal infiltration, national security and registration of foreign nationals. He said that the government will welcome those who come to India for tourism, education, healthcare and business, but those who can pose a threat to national security will be dealt with strictly.

However, the Foreigners Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 11.  While 30 MPs from the ruling and opposition put forth their views on this.

What will change with the bill?

> Security will be strengthened - will help in identification and expulsion of illegal immigrants.

>. Business and economy will get a boost - better facilities will be provided for legal immigrants.

>.Updated record of foreigners' data - Passport Act and visa rules will be made more stringent.

>.Strictness on infiltrators and illegal activities – People involved in drugs, hawala and infiltration will be kept under strict surveillance

Security of the country will be strengthened

In the meanwhile, describing the government's migration policy as a mixture of strictness and compassion, Amit Shah bluntly said in the House that "India is not a dharamshala that anyone can come and live here whenever they want". Those who want to enter India with wrong intentions will not get a place here.

He said that the government welcomes those who want to come to India for tourism, education, healthcare and business, but strict action will be taken against those who can pose a threat to national security.

The Union Home Minister said that the proposed law will strengthen the security of the country, boost the economy and trade, as well as encourage the health and education sectors.

Discussion and impact of the bill in the Lok Sabha

Although this Bill 2025 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on March 11. After this, 30 MPs from the ruling and opposition discussed it. Amit Shah said that this law will stop illegal infiltration and strengthen national security.

He further said that this bill will also strengthen India's economy, trade and health and education sectors.

With the implementation of this bill, the process of registration of foreigners will become more stringent. He said that strict action will be taken against drug cartels, hawala traders and infiltrators. Apart from this, passport and visa rules will also be tightened further.

Concern over Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltration

The Home Minister expressed concern over illegal infiltration especially from Bangladesh and Myanmar. He said that the number of Rohingya infiltrators has increased in the last few years, posing a serious threat to national security. He warned that if these infiltrators spread unrest in India, strict action will be taken against them.

Bengal government is kind to infiltrators: Shah

Amit Shah made serious allegations against the Mamata government of West Bengal regarding infiltration. He said that the Bengal government is not cooperating in stopping illegal infiltrators.

The Home Minister said that the work of fencing 450 km on the India-Bangladesh border is still incomplete, as the West Bengal government is not providing land for it. He said that whenever the central government tries to fence, TMC workers start protesting and religious slogans are raised.

He further said that the infiltrators are not only being given space in Bengal, but their Aadhar cards are also being made, due to which they are spreading to other parts of the country. Amit Shah alleged that the highest number of illegal Aadhar cards have been found in South 24 Parganas district in Bengal.

Will form government in Bengal next year

Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that BJP will form the government in West Bengal next year and then the work of fencing the entire border area will be completed. He said that till now the central government has written 11 letters to the Bengal government and organized 7 meetings on this issue, but no concrete action has been taken.

TMC's counterattack

Responding to these allegations of Amit Shah, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Saugata Roy said that the Bengal government is not giving any kind of protection to illegal immigrants. He said that BJP is trying to tarnish the image of West Bengal and is spreading lies in view of the upcoming elections.
