Under the US government rule, from August 29, all goods entering the US will attract customs duty under the International Emergency Economy Powers Acts (IEEPA) tariff. However, goods up to US $ 100 will remain under tariff exemption.
CBP had issued instructions
According to the US order, airlines delivering goods through the international postal network or any other party approved by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are also required to collect and pay tariff on postal shipments. In this regard, CBP has also issued a guideline on August 15, but many things like tax collection and sending arrangements have not been decided yet.
Why did India stop postal service?
Due to which airlines going to America have expressed their inability to accept postal consignments after August 25, 2025, citing lack of operational and technical preparation. Keeping all these reasons in mind, the Postal Department has decided to temporarily stop booking of all types of postal items going to America from August 25. But now mail up to US $ 100 can be sent.
Service will resume only after clarification
According to the information given by PIB, after getting further clarification from CBP and USPS, these exempted categories will continue to be accepted and sent to the US. At the same time, the Postal Department is closely monitoring the emerging situation in coordination with all stakeholders and is making every effort to normalize the services as soon as possible.
