India clears major 63,000 crore deal to buy 26 Rafale-M jets from France

India has approved a mega deal worth more than Rs 63,000 crore to buy 26 Rafale marine fighter aircraft from France.

The central government has been approved a mega deal to buy 26 Rafale marine fighter aircraft from France. This government-to-government deal will be worth more than Rs 63,000 crore, which will be finalized soon. Under this deal, the Indian Navy will get 22 single-seater and 4 two-seater aircraft.

It also includes a comprehensive package for fleet maintenance, logistic support, personnel training and indigenous manufacturing components under offset obligations.

This includes 22 single-seater and 4 double-seater aircraft, which will be deployed on INS Vikrant. Meantime this deal also includes maintenance, training and indigenous manufacturing components. This deal will increase the air power of the Navy.

India to buy 26 Rafale-M jets

Delivery of Rafale marine jets is expected to begin about five years after the deal is signed. These fighter jets will be deployed on India's first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and will complement the Navy's existing MiG-29K fleet. While the Indian Air Force is operating 36 Rafale jets.

Capabilities of the Air Force will also increase

Although this new Rafale Marine deal will also help enhance the capabilities of the Indian Air Force, including upgrading its "Buddy-Buddy" aerial refueling system. This facility will enable about 10 Air Force Rafale aircraft to refuel others in the air, increasing their operational range.

Defense sources had earlier said that the deal will include ground-based equipment and software upgrades for the Indian Air Force fleet. The Indian Navy will install equipment on its aircraft carriers to support the operation of the 4.5-generation Rafale jets, while the MiG-29K will continue to operate from INS Vikramaditya.

Rafale will increase the strength of the Navy

The inclusion of Rafale Marine Jet is expected to increase the air power of the Navy. Apart from this, the Indian Navy is also planning to include indigenous fifth generation fighter jets, which are being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
