India Prepares to Host Historic G20 Summit on September 9-10; High Security in Delhi
The upcoming G20 summit in New Delhi, set for September 9-10, is a significant milestone as India becomes the first South Asian nation to host this prestigious event. Distinguished guests and delegates from around the world are converging at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Center, situated within the newly renovated Pragati Maidan complex in the heart of New Delhi.
In anticipation of the summit, Delhi has transformed into a highly secure enclave, with certain measures in place, including the suspension of online deliveries in the city's district from September 8 to 10. Although Delhi Metro services continue to operate, some stations, including the Supreme Court station, will remain closed during this period.
Global leaders expected to attend include US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Canada PM Justin Trudeau. Notably absent are Russia's Vladimir Putin and China's Xi Jinping, with their foreign ministers and prime ministers representing their respective countries.
Ahead of the event, Ghazipur flower vendors are experiencing increased business, catering to those preparing for the G20 Summit and Janmashtami celebrations.
During the summit, PM Modi and President Biden are expected to discuss the G20 agenda, focusing on economic cooperation, multilateral investment opportunities, and multilateral development bank reform, as desired by the American leader.
While addressing the ongoing Ukraine conflict and climate issues is less likely to be on the agenda, the meeting between the two leaders is seen as a follow-up to their recent comprehensive discussions during PM Modi's official visit to the White House. President Biden is set to meet PM Modi during his visit to New Delhi.
