India, Mauritius Are Family: Bilateral talks were held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navin Chandra Ramgoolam in Varanasi. The two countries signed several agreements, this includes cooperation in the energy sector and partnership in education sector. India assured cooperation in the economic development of Mauritius.
This meeting will further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday met Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi. Bilateral talks were held between the two leaders. Also, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the two countries. After this meeting of the two leaders, the relations between India and Mauritius will become even stronger. On this occasion, regarding the relations between India and Mauritius, PM Modi said, India and Mauritius are not just partners but a family.

Bilateral talks were held between the two leaders
On this occasion, PM Modi said, it is a matter of pride for me that I am getting the opportunity to welcome Mauritius PM Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam in my parliamentary constituency. Since ancient times, Kashi has been a symbol of India's civilization and cultural soul. Our culture and traditions reached Mauritius from India centuries ago and settled in the life stream there.

The PM further said, I proudly say that India and Mauritius are not just partners but a family. Mauritius is an important pillar of India's Neighborhood First policy and Vision Ocean. In March, I got the opportunity to attend the National Day celebrations of Mauritius.
Today we reviewed all aspects of bilateral cooperation in detail. We also shared our views on regional and global issues.
On which issues were the agreements signed?
PM Modi said, IIT Madras and Indian Institute of Plantation Management have signed agreements with Mauritius University. These agreements will take our partnership in research, education and innovation to new heights. India is fully committed to strengthening the security and maritime capacity of Mauritius's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Mauritius' coast guard ship is being refitted in India and 120 of their officers are also undergoing training in India. Today, an agreement has been signed on cooperation in the field of hydrography (marine mapping) and plans have been made for joint survey of EEZ, mutual cooperation in navigation, sharing of charts and hydrographic data for the next five years

100 electric buses given to Mauritius
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, energy security is an important pillar of our partnership. India is helping Mauritius in its energy transition. 100 electric buses are being given to Mauritius, out of which 10 buses have already arrived. The Comprehensive Partnership Agreement in the energy sector will take it further. We have decided to cooperate in building a 17.5 MW floating solar power plant at Tamarind Falls.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further said, the first Jan Aushadhi Kendra outside India has now been established in Mauritius. Today we have decided that India will cooperate in the construction of a 500-bed AYUSH Center of Excellence, Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National (SSRN) Hospital and Animal Hospital and Veterinary School in Mauritius. We will also take forward projects like Chagos Marine Protected Area, ATC tower of SSR International Airport, and expansion of highways and ring roads. This package is not assistance, but an investment in our common future. UPI and RuPay cards were launched in Mauritius last year. Now we will work towards promoting trade in local currency.
