IndiGo Chairman apologizes, says crisis was not created intentionally
IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta issued a public apology on Wednesday. This apology comes amidst the instability caused by the IndiGo crisis that has been ongoing for the past week. Along with the apology, he also categorically rejected the allegations that the airline deliberately created this crisis to circumvent new regulations.
In an eight-minute video message, he acknowledged the large-scale flight cancellations since December 3rd, saying that the company had disappointed its customers. He also assured that the airline's services have returned to normal sooner than expected.
Crisis was not created intentionally
Mehta said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) is investigating the entire series of events that led to thousands of passengers being stranded across the country. He confirmed that IndiGo will appoint external technical experts to work with the management to identify the root causes of this entire disruption and ensure that such a disruption never happens again.
DGCA is investigating the entire series of events
While accepting responsibility for the disruption, he strongly refuted the claim that the disruption was intentional. He said that some allegations are completely false. To say that IndiGo deliberately created this crisis, that we tried to influence government regulations, or that we compromised on safety – all these claims are baseless. We operated throughout the period from July to November strictly under the updated rules related to pilot fatigue and made no attempt to circumvent them.

Summary
Chairman Mehta described the period between December 3rd and 5th as a time when a series of unforeseen events placed immense pressure on the airline's systems. He attributed this to minor technical glitches, schedule changes due to winter weather, adverse weather conditions, congestion across the entire aviation network, and new crew rostering standards. He stated that this was not an excuse, but the reality, and described the entire episode as a blemish on the company's otherwise unblemished record.
