history as the preparations for the massive event unfold.
Along with his siblings Balbhadra and Subhadra, Lord Jagannath
will embark on his journey. The journey will start at the well-known Puri
temple.
The Puri Rath Yatra, which honours Lord Jagannath, his sister
Subhadra, brother Balbhadra, and other family members, is the oldest chariot
celebration. The gods’ yearly journey on three enormous wooden chariots is
visible from the road that runs between the famous Puri Jagannath Temple and
the Gundicha Temple.

In order to participate in the Lord’s yatra, priests and
followers pull the three vehicles with ropes. This event is truly breathtaking,
which is why it draws admirers from all around the world.
- The primary idols from the
interior sanctorum are taken out of the temple compound in this unique
ritual. The presiding god is never removed from the Garbha Griha in other
temples; hence, this is a distinctive feature. - To carry out the Chera Pahara
ritual, the King (also known as the Gajapati) dresses as a sweeper and
sweeps the road with a golden-handled broom and water mixed with
sandalwood paste. - Every year, a certain kind of
neem tree wood is used to construct three huge wooden chariots for Lord
Jagannath, his older brother Balbhadra (Balaram), and his sister Subhadra. - Red and black are the colours
that are connected with Subhadra, and her chariot has twelve wheels.
Darpadalana, also known as Devadalana or Padmadhwaja, is the name of her
42-foot-tall chariot. - Nandighosha, Lord Jagannath’s
Rath (also called Garudadhwaja or Kapiladhwaja), is roughly 44 feet tall.
His chariot has 16 wheels and mostly uses the colours red and yellow. - Taladhwaja, or Langaladhwaja,
is the name of Balbhadra’s chariot, which is 43 feet tall. Red and
bluish-green are the colours used to decorate the chariot, which has 14
wheels. - The Jagannath Rath Yatra
represents Shri Krishna’s trip from Braj Bhoomi, where he was born, to
Dwaraka, the kingdom he oversaw. This custom is also thought to be a replica
of Lord Krishna leaving Gokul, the village where he was raised. - From the Puri shrine, which
King Indradyumna constructed, Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra, and Subhadra set
out on their way to the Gundicha temple, a memorial established in honour
of the Queen of Indradyumna. - For more than 460 years, the
Puri Jagannath Rath Yatra has been an annual event. However, ancient texts
like the Brahma Purana, Padma Purana, Skanda Purana, and Kapila Samhita
also make reference to this age-old practise.
