Science says that leftover food can be eaten after reheating, but Ayurveda takes a different view on this.

- Fresh food is nutritious and healthy

Freshly cooked food is rich in healthy nutrients, whereas stale food loses its nutritional value. Food stored for long periods of time does not provide energy to the body but instead increases laziness. According to Ayurveda, food remains fresh for only 1-3 hours after cooking, so it should be consumed within that time.

If you ever have to eat pre-cooked food, you should store it properly to prevent it from spoiling. According to Ayurveda, vacuum packing or heat insulation can be used when storing pre-cooked food to prevent bacteria from growing in the food and keep it edible.

-Stale Food Causes Imbalances

According to Ayurveda, eating leftover food can cause various doshas and digestive problems. Of the three main doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, Vata Dosha is closely associated with the digestive system, and eating stale food causes imbalances in the body. Germs and bacteria multiply rapidly in leftover food. Furthermore, the nutritional value of leftover food is also reduced. Therefore, eating food within 1 hour of cooking is best for your body.

All proponents of yoga and Ayurveda say that the quality of food determines your temperament. Eating fresh, healthy, and sattvic food keeps your body energetic. Eating stale, junk, and rajasic food increases laziness and anger. Therefore, always eat fresh and hot food.
