The Iran-backed Houthi rebel group issued an official statement on Saturday (August 30, 2025). In the statement, the rebel group said that Al-Rahavi was killed in an Israeli attack on Thursday. Along with Al-Rahavi, other ministers were also killed in the Israeli attack.
This attack by the Israeli army against Yemen-based Houthi rebels took place when officials attended a workshop to review the government work done last year.
Houthi rebel group is continuously attacking Israel in support of Gaza
At the same time, the Israeli army confirmed the attack and said that the IDF carried out a precise attack on a military base of the Houthi terrorist regime in the area of Sana, the capital of Yemen. Houthi rebels have long stood as supporters of Hamas during the ongoing war in Gaza. Taking the side of Hamas, Houthi rebels fired several missiles and drones towards Israel in the last several months.
Houthi rebels have openly said that their attacks on Israel are to show solidarity with the Palestinians. However, most of the missiles and drones of the Houthi rebels were destroyed mid-air by Israel's defense system before they could attack. But despite this, the Houthi rebel group continued its attack by continuously targeting Israel.
Israeli army targeted several areas in Sanaa
According to the Houthi-backed Health Ministry, earlier this week, Israel also carried out air strikes targeting several areas of Sanaa in Yemen. At least ten people were killed and more than 100 were injured in this.

Who are the Houthis and what is their motive?
The Houthis, also known as Ansar Allah (Supporters of Allah), are a Shia Zaidi Muslim (Yemen's population is about 35% Shia and 60% Sunni) rebel group active in Yemen. The group emerged in the Saada province of northern Yemen in the 1990s. The group was named after its founder Hussein Badruddin al-Houthi, who started a movement in 2004 against the regime of Yemen's then President Ali Abdullah Saleh, accusing him of corruption and support from Saudi Arabia and the US, and was killed by the Yemeni army the same year. Now the group is led by Abdul Malik al-Houthi.
The Houthis seek to protect the rights of the Shia community in Yemen, oppose the expansion of Sunni Salafi ideology, and establish independent rule. They also claim to support a democratic, non-sectarian republic. In 2014, Houthi rebels captured Yemen's capital Sanaa and large parts of the country, after which the civil war began in Yemen. They control the coastal areas of the Red Sea and attack commercial ships passing through there.
What is the Houthi group's enmity with Israel?
United Nations said, by 2010 the Houthis had 1.25 lakh fighters. They are capable of drone, missile and sea attacks. The Houthis are accused of receiving arms, training and funding from Iran, as their common enemies are the US, Israel and Saudi Arabia. Hezbollah also trains them.
They consider Israel to be oppressor of the Palestinian people and support Hamas in Gaza. The slogan of the Houthis is, 'God is great, America and Israel should be destroyed, Jews should be destroyed and Islam should be victorious'.
