Israel engages in a serious battle with Hamas in Gaza
Israel and Palestinian organizations in Gaza fired rockets into each other's territory on the third day of a deadly battle that has killed over 1,100 people, including children.
Over 700 people have died in Israel, while over 400 have died in Gaza. Thousands more have been injured. Several Israeli soldiers as well as civilians are being held hostage across the Gaza Strip.
The Israeli Defense Forces called the Hamas attack their "9/11" or "Pearl Harbour" moment, as well as the "worst massacre of innocent citizens in Israeli history." They also stated that Hamas wanted the "annihilation of our state," while the government promised to "change the face of reality" in Gaza.
"Hamas was more barbaric and more brutal than ISIS. Hamas murdered hundreds of Israelis, men, women, and children, and took dozens of hostages into Gaza. This horrific terror act demands a forceful, determined, and sustained response, which is exactly what we are doing,"
As NDTV journalists were set to check in, a missile burst at a hotel in Israel's Ashkelon, just a few kilometers from the Gaza Strip. As real-time images showed missiles piercing the sky, air raid sirens blared, and the team raced for shelter, leaving their bags behind.
The United States confirmed three Americans were killed in the surprise land-sea-air attack on Israel and authorized the deployment of US warships and fighter aircraft squadrons to Israel on Sunday, showing its "unwavering" support for its partner in the face of Hamas's intensifying attacks.

Since Hamas acquired power in Gaza in 2007, Israel and Palestinian organizations have fought many battles. The latest violence began a day after Hamas stated that "people had to draw a line to end the occupation" and that Israel continues to cause crimes across Palestinian territory, particularly at the holy site of Al-Aqsa in Jerusalem.
