In the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed willingness to consider short-term pauses in fighting to facilitate hostage releases and allow humanitarian aid to reach those in need. Despite international pressure for a ceasefire, Netanyahu remains firm in rejecting such calls.

Israel's military has surrounded Gaza City, particularly in the north of the enclave, where the Hamas Islamist group is based. The military reported its control of a militant compound and readiness to target fighters concealed in a network of underground tunnels.

On Tuesday, two separate Israeli airstrikes in the southern Gaza cities of Khan Younis and Rafah resulted in the deaths of at least 23 Palestinians, according to health officials. As a result, the conflict is causing fear and devastation among the residents.

In response to the situation, Israel has maintained its demand for the release of hostages before considering a broader ceasefire. Meanwhile, Hamas refuses to free hostages or cease fighting while Gaza remains under attack. The international community is increasingly calling for an end to hostilities.

U.S. President Joe Biden discussed the possibility of temporary pauses in the fighting and the potential release of hostages in a recent phone call with Netanyahu. The White House reiterated its support for Israel while emphasizing the need to protect civilians.

As the conflict continued, the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for an urgent ceasefire, highlighting the dire situation for civilians in Gaza. International organizations have emphasized the urgent need for a humanitarian ceasefire to address the growing human suffering and inadequate access to essential supplies.

As the situation remains highly complex, diplomatic efforts are ongoing, and the conflict's resolution remains uncertain.
