Authorities closed the route on Monday due to severe
damage from constant rains, notably in Ramban district.

Even when the yatra is suspended, pilgrims are
enthusiastic about seeing the Amarnath cave sanctuary, even if it takes days.

On Monday night, traffic authorities advised that
the government and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) had improved
road conditions throughout the day.

Complete restoration may take longer. The
administration has suspended highway traffic for Tuesday, it added.

Officials stated 8,000 pilgrims are trapped in
Jammu, notably at the Bhagwatinagar base camp, due to the yatra suspension.

6,000 pilgrims are stuck in Chanderkot base camp in
Ramban district. Nearly 2,000 pilgrims are stuck in Kathua and Samba.

Officials said more pilgrims are arriving in Jammu
to travel to Amanarth. “It’s rising.”Most of them are in various lodging
centres,” one remarked.

Divisional Commissioner Ramesh Kumar and the deputy
commissioners assessing the matter stated they are doing all necessary to help
the trapped pilgrims.

Once the highway is completely rebuilt, Kumar said
the yatra would start again from Jammu.

The annual pilgrimage from Pahalgam and Baltal base
camps in Kashmir, which had been postponed due to the rain and bad weather,
resumed on Sunday.

Only the 250-kilometer Jammu-Srinagar route connects
Kashmir to the rest of the country, and it is open year-round. The torrential
rain on Saturday and Sunday caused floods that washed away sections of the
highway.

Highway traffic is being restored, according to
officials from the Ramban district administration.
Around 5,000 vehicles are stopped on the road
between Ramban to Lakhanpur. Beginning on July 1st, people from all over the
world have begun making the arduous journey to the Amarnath cave shrine, which
is located 3,888 metres above sea level in the south Kashmir Himalayas.

Seven groups totaling 43,833 people have left the
Jammu base camp for the cave site since June 30. The final day of the journey
is planned for August 31.
