Juvenile Discovered Hanging at Residence of BJP MP in Assam
A 10-year-old boy's body was discovered hanging at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Rajdeep Roy in Silchar, Assam, on Saturday evening, as reported by the police.
Police recovered the body and transported it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination. The victim, named Rajdeep Roy (sharing the name with the BJP MP), was a Class-5 student who had been residing with his mother and elder sister at the MP's house for several years.
Family members revealed that they hailed from the Palong Ghat area of Cachar district. The boy's mother worked as a house help at MP Rajdeep Roy's residence. She had moved to Silchar a few years ago to ensure better educational opportunities for her two children.
Upon receiving the information, the BJP MP hurried to his residence. He informed the media that the door of the room where the body was discovered had been locked from the inside. After breaking open the door, the boy was found unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite the doctors' efforts, he was declared dead.
Police investigations and family accounts suggest that the incident might be a case of suicide. The boy's family members shared that he had expressed anger towards his mother for not providing him with a mobile phone to play video games.
The mother had left the house briefly to purchase groceries with her daughter. During her absence, the boy had asked for her mobile phone, which she denied. When she returned after around 40 minutes, she found the room's door locked from the inside, according to Roy.
However, Roy expressed doubts about the cause of death. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and has engaged top law enforcement officials in the district to scrutinize the matter.
Described as a bright student, the boy's handwriting and interactions had left a positive impression on MP Rajdeep Roy. The MP regarded the incident as a personal loss, with his family deeply shocked by the tragedy.
Law enforcement officials visited the house, conducting a comprehensive examination of the scene. An official stated that all parties involved were cooperating, and the investigation is ongoing.
