Know Mission Mausam, launched by PM Modi, on the occasion of 150th Foundation Day of IMD

The PM Modi on Tuesday launched 'Mission Mausam' on the occasion of the 150th Foundation Day of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) with the aim of making the country a 'smart nation' to face every weather and climate. Attending the function organized at Bharat Mandapam, the Prime Minister also released a commemorative coin on the 150th Foundation Day of IMD and the IMD Vision-2047 document for meteorological adaptation and climate change adaptation. It includes plans for weather forecasting, weather management.

Meanwhile to commemorate the 150th Foundation Day of IMD, a series of programs, activities and workshops have been organized to showcase the achievements of IMD during the last 150 years, its role in making India climate-friendly and the role played by government institutions in providing various weather and climate services.

Earlier, the PM Modi also visited an exhibition based on the achievements of IMD at Bharat Mandapam.

Statement of PM Modi

On this occasion, in his address, the Prime Minister said that today we are celebrating 150 years of the Indian Meteorological Department. This is not only of IMD, but also the journey of modern science and technology in the country. Although the Prime Minister said that IMD has not only served crores of Indians but has also become a symbol of India's scientific journey.

The Prime Minister said that research and innovation in scientific institutions are part of the temperament of the new India. He said, "That is why, in the last 10 years, the technology of IMD has been expanded unprecedentedly. Modi said that to make India a 'smart nation' to face the climate, we have also started 'Mission Mausam'.

Objective of Mission Mausam

'Mission Mausam' aims to achieve high-level capacity by developing state-of-the-art weather monitoring technology and systems, implementing high-resolution atmospheric observation, next-generation radars and satellites and high-performance computers. It will also focus on improving the understanding of weather and climate processes, providing air quality data which will help in formulating weather management and intervention strategies in the long run.

In previous governments, disasters were dismissed as destiny - PM Modi

He further said in his address, today all updates related to weather are available on WhatsApp. In the last 10 years, many cyclones came but we have shown zero or minimum loss of life. In the previous governments, when thousands of lives were lost in such natural disasters, it was dismissed as destiny.

PM Modi also released coins and postage stamps

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 'Mission Mausam' with the goal of making the country 'weather ready and climate smart'. Along with this, he also released the IMD Vision-2047 document for weather related adaptability and climate change adaptation.
