The incident took place near Falpatti Machhua in central Kolkata. Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said that the fire has been brought under control and rescue operations are underway. He also said that a special team has been formed to investigate the incident.

So far 14 bodies have been recovered

Kolkata Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said that a fire broke out in Rituraj Hotel at around 8:15 pm on Tuesday night. He said that 14 bodies have been recovered and many people have been rescued. He also informed that the fire has been controlled and the rescue operation is still going on. Police is investigating the matter. A special team has also been formed for investigation.

BJP appeals for action

Union Minister and West Bengal BJP President Sukanta Majumdar urged the state government to take immediate action. He talked about rescuing the affected people and giving them necessary help. He also talked about strictly following the rules of fire safety to prevent such incidents in future.

He wrote on X, I urge the state administration to immediately rescue the affected people, ensure their safety and provide them with necessary medical and humanitarian assistance. Apart from this, I appeal to review and strictly monitor the rules of fire safety to prevent such tragic incidents in future.

Congress expressed grief over the accident

West Bengal Congress President Subhankar Sarkar also expressed grief over the incident and criticized the Kolkata Corporation. He said, this is a sad incident. A fire broke out... many people are still trapped in the building. There was no security. I don't know what the corporation is doing. He raised questions on the incident and expressed displeasure over the working style of the corporation.
