Kolkata RG Kar Rape And Murder Case:  Kolkata: The judge of Sealdah court will pronounce the verdict on 18 January. In the case of rape and murder of a female doctor posted on duty in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in August last year.

1.The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has requested death penalty for Sanjay Roy, the accused in the case. After the completion of the trial, the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Sealdah court had said that the verdict will be pronounced on 18 January.

2.The parents of the deceased female doctor expressed hope that other people involved in the crime will also be arrested and a case will be filed against them in the court.

3.Let us tell you that the body of the female doctor was found in the auditorium of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August. The investigation of the case was handed over to the CBI on the direction of the Calcutta High Court.

4.After this case, several movements were carried out by the medical fraternity and common people in the state, in which Naya was one of the prominent faces of the movement.

5.The accused was arrested by the Kolkata Police the very next day of the incident.

6.The CBI also arrested former principal Sandip Ghosh and former officer of the local police station Abhijit Mandal on charges of tampering and altering evidence.

7.Later, both of them were granted 'default bail' by the same special court. Because the CBI did not file a supplementary chargesheet against them within 90 days from the date of their arrest.

8.The process of framing charges against Sanjay Roy in the special court was completed on 4 November 2024 and the trial began on 11 November.

9.The entire hearing was held in a closed room and in a closed court room. A total of 50 witnesses' statements were recorded during the hearing.

10.The statement was presented by the victim's parents, investigating officers from the CBI and Kolkata Police, forensic experts and some doctors and colleagues of the victim.
