The Alipore Meteorological Department has forecast rain with thunderstorms in several districts of the state from South Bengal to North Bengal. Officials said the weather system could bring gusty winds and lightning in many areas over the next few days.

According to the weather office, gusty winds may blow at a speed of about 30 to 50 kilometers per hour along with rainfall. Kalbaisakhi-like conditions may also develop in some places, along with the risk of lightning.

There is a possibility of scattered rain in South Bengal till Wednesday. The forecast indicates that Nadia, Murshidabad, East and West Burdwan, Birbhum, Bankura and Purulia districts may receive relatively higher rainfall on Wednesday. Gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph may accompany the rain in these districts. Other districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, may also see scattered showers.

For Kolkata, the weather office has predicted a slight possibility of light rain with thundershowers on Wednesday afternoon or evening. The sky may remain cloudy for most of the day, followed by partly cloudy conditions later. One or two spells of scattered rain with thundershowers may occur in some areas.

The Meteorological Department said rainfall activity in South Bengal may gradually decrease from Thursday and dry weather may slowly return. However, the forecast indicates that the chance of rain may increase again on Sunday and Monday.

Meanwhile, temperatures in Kolkata are gradually rising. The maximum temperature in the city has reached 31.1 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature stands at 24.6 degrees Celsius. High moisture levels in the air are expected to cause humidity related discomfort.

Rainfall activity is expected to remain stronger in North Bengal. Weather officials have warned of the risk of severe weather in the upper six districts of the region on Thursday and Friday. Malda and the two Dinajpur districts may receive significant rainfall on Wednesday.

The Meteorological Department said thunderstorms with gusty winds reaching up to 50 kmph may affect Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar and North Dinajpur on Thursday and Friday.

Officials said large amounts of water vapor are entering from the Bay of Bengal, which may keep the sky cloudy or partly cloudy in many areas. The department also indicated that storm and rain activity may increase from Thursday due to the influence of western disturbances over North Bengal.
