Ladakh: 3 soldiers martyred in massive avalanche in Siachen Glacier, rescue operations continue
A case of avalanche has come to light at a base camp in Siachen, the world's highest battlefield in the Union Territory of Ladakh. Three soldiers have lost their lives in this incident. Officials said that on Sunday, an avalanche occurred in the Siachen base camp area located at an altitude of 12,000 feet, in which three soldiers including two Agniveers got trapped. Officials said that a rescue operation was started immediately and the bodies of the trapped soldiers were taken out. More information is awaited in the case.
Rescue operations continue
Meanwhile local officials have intensified the rescue and relief operation and deployed special teams to deal with the harsh conditions of the glacier in the region. The Indian Army continues to review the security protocol for better safety of the personnel deployed in this dangerous area. As the search continues, the nation is mourning the loss of its brave soldiers deployed on one of the most challenging front lines in the world.

History of deadly avalanches in Siachen
Earlier in 2021, an avalanche struck Sub-Sector Hanif, killing two soldiers. Despite the tragedy, several other soldiers and porters were rescued after a grueling six-hour operation. Similarly, in 2019, four soldiers and two porters lost their lives in a massive avalanche while patrolling near a post at an altitude of 18000 feet.

On February 3, 2016, another devastating avalanche at an altitude of 19600 feet buried ten soldiers. These included Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, who initially survived but suffered multiple organ failure a few days later.
