Under the direction of Police Commissioner Smt. Lakshmi Singh of Gautam Buddh Nagar, continuous action is being taken against cybercrimes and criminals. The Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate Police is seriously investigating a cyber fraud case related to an e-challan. In this case, the role of an earning app called “WinGo” has been found suspicious, which appears to be functioning as a “Telecom Mule as a Service” app.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that this app lures ordinary citizens into its trap by promising easy and quick earnings. To gain trust, users are initially given small and quick payments (withdrawals) and are asked to perform SMS/message tasks. This app is not available on the Google App Store and, after installation, automatically sends approximately 80 to 100 SMS messages daily, which have been found to be related to various types of fraud.

During the investigation, it also came to light that these so-called message tasks appear normal, but in reality, they are used to send scam messages to potential victims or to promote cybercrime-related activities. Most users are unaware that their participation is directly or indirectly supporting a large cybercrime network. According to available information, it is claimed that there are more than one lakh users associated with this app through Telegram channels.

Investigating officers have found that cyber fraudsters are exploiting innocent and vulnerable people through such apps, and their digital identities and activities are being used to commit and conceal fraud. Lured by the promise of initial profits, users unknowingly become part of the scam chain.

The Gautam Buddh Nagar Police appeals to the general public to stay away from any app or platform that promises high earnings without any effort, such as SMS tasks, message forwarding, referral-based schemes, or those that demand deposits.

Public Interest Advisory:

• WinGo app is a “Telecom Mule as a Service App”. Citizens are strongly advised not to install this app.

• Be wary of apps/platforms that claim guaranteed returns or quick earnings without any credible financial license.

• Before engaging in any activity involving SMS forwarding, content re-posting, or task-based work, thoroughly understand its purpose and potential consequences.

• Immediately report any suspicious app, unsolicited earning offers, or cyber fraud-related activity through the "Suspect Reporting" feature of the Government of India's I4C National Cybercrime Reporting Portal or to your nearest police station.
