Land collapses on Jammu-Kashmir highway, NH-44 closed for passengers

NH-44 has been closed due to landslide in Jammu and Kashmir. Many vehicles are stranded due to land collapse in Chamba Seri near Ramban.

The Chamba Seri, Ramban road has been closed due to landslide in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, many vehicles are stuck in the middle of the way. According to the information, due to the landslide, the Jammu Srinagar National Highway has been closed from both sides for the movement of vehicles.

The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police issued travel advisory on Thursday morning. Passengers have been advised not to travel on NH-44 till the weather improves and the road is cleared.

Meteorological Department issued alert

Although Meteorological Department has already  issued a yellow alert for Jammu and Kashmir from May 9. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in the state. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and parts of Telangana. Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are also likely to receive rain till May 11. Punjab and Haryana may receive rain on May 10 and 11.

Snowfall may occur in higher reaches today

Looking ahead, the IMD forecast has predicted light to moderate rain in the plains and mid-hill areas till May 8, while snowfall is likely in higher reaches. These seasonal activities are expected to continue for the next 4 to 5 days.

According to IMD data, the entire state has received 22% more rainfall than normal so far in the month of May. However, some districts, including Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti, have received below average rainfall, while six districts have recorded above normal rainfall and the rest are close to the average.
