Liquor, drugs & crores of cash seized... Delhi Police action in violation of code of conduct
Amid preparations for the assembly elections in Delhi, taking strict action against violation of code of conduct on Tuesday, the police have registered FIRs in 155 cases. Under these cases, 105 unlicensed weapons and 78 cartridges along with huge amount of cash, liquor and drugs have been seized.
Strict action against violation of code of conduct for assembly elections in Delhi, police and other departments have seized cash, liquor and other items worth more than Rs 21 crore. This action has been taken within a week of the implementation of the code of conduct. Elections are scheduled for February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8.
Major crackdown on code of conduct violations in Delhi ahead of polls
Delhi Police said that more than 16 thousand liters of liquor was seized during the action. More than 57 kg of drugs worth 12 crores have also been seized. Apart from these, more than ten crore rupees in cash, more than 37 kg of silver were seized and 6,371 people were arrested under different sections.
Earlier, according to the information given by the office of the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi on Monday, cash and other items worth more than Rs 21 crore have been seized since the implementation of the code of conduct.
Code of conduct is in force in Delhi from January 7
The code of conduct came into force in Delhi from January 7, when the election schedule was announced. Voting for the 70 assembly seats of the capital is to be held on February 5 and the results will be declared on February 8. The code of conduct is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission (EC), which regulates the conduct of political parties and candidates during the electoral process.
Seizure of Rs 21 crore in Delhi
According to the data provided by the CEO's office, the highest seizure has been made in East Delhi, the total amount of which is Rs 6.83 crore. After this, seizure of Rs 6.81 crore was registered in South Delhi, while the minimum seizure was made in New Delhi area, the total amount of which was Rs 3.9 lakh.
However, items worth Rs 21.89 crore have been seized across Delhi, this includes Rs 9.8 crore in cash, drugs worth Rs 5.05 crore, free goods worth more than Rs 47 lakh and liquor worth more than Rs 45 lakh.
Delhi Police is keeping a strict vigil
Delhi Chief Election Officer Alice Vaz told the media on Monday that there is no shortage in the preparations for the elections. Training programmers for polling personnel have begun and key data related to nominations, permissions and law-enforcement activities are being monitored.

The Delhi Police has arrested 6371 people under the provisions of the Preventive Action and Excise Act till January 13. According to officials, 105 unlicensed weapons and 78 cartridges were seized after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election date. During this period, 16,315.82 litres of liquor was also seized.
It is noteworthy that with the announcement of election dates in Delhi on January 7, the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) has come into force in Delhi and will remain in force till the completion of the election.
