Reuters, citing sources, reported that President Andry fled the country on a French military plane. Madagascar was formerly a French colony. However, French President Emmanuel Macron says he has no information about this yet.
Why did the protests begin?
Following the Gen-G movement in Nepal and Kenya, on September 25th, young people in Madagascar also attacked the government, citing water and electricity shortages. The military also supported the protesters, further complicating President Andry's problems. The protesters were continuously demanding Andry's resignation.
