Major drug seizure in Mumbai: Two Nigerians caught with Rs 9 Crore worth of Cocaine
In a significant crackdown on an international drug smuggling operation, Mumbai police successfully nabbed two Nigerian nationals in the Saki Naka area, seizing drugs valued at Rs 9 crore on Saturday.
Acting on undisclosed intelligence, law enforcement authorities apprehended the suspects near Hansa Industrial Estate on Saki Vihar Road. The seized contraband, identified as 880 grams of cocaine, holds an estimated international market value of Rs 9 crore, according to police reports.
The operation unfolded as the Sakinaka Police, acting on a tip-off, maintained surveillance in front of Hansa Industrial Estate. Upon the suspects' arrival at the location, they were promptly intercepted and subjected to a thorough search. Subsequently, 88 large capsules containing the illicit substance were discovered in their possession, leading to immediate confiscation by the police.
Interrogations are currently underway as Sakinaka Police intensifies efforts to ascertain the intended recipients and the network behind the smuggling attempt. A case has been registered against the arrested individuals under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS Act), marking a decisive step in curbing the illicit drug trade within the city.
