After 11 years, a man accused of committing murder has been apprehended by a Haryana Police team from a secluded island within the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago. The individual in question, identified as AP Selvan, a 54-year-old cook, had eluded capture for over a decade following allegations of his involvement in his wife's death in Haryana back in 2007.

The circumstances surrounding his wife's demise were initially attributed to suicide, as she was discovered hanging from a ceiling fan. Selvan was subsequently taken into custody at his rented residence in Ambala, Haryana.

However, insufficient evidence led to his release on bail. Subsequent investigations cast doubt on his innocence, prompting the Ambala Court in 2012 to issue a renewed arrest warrant against him based on substantial proof presented by the investigating officers.

For the past 11 years, Selvan remained on the run, until his whereabouts were finally traced to a remote village called Vijay Nagar in Campbell Bay, situated within the Nicobar district of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The region is notable for housing Indira Point, India's southernmost tip.

Devesh Chandra Srivastava, Director General of Police for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, affirmed that Selvan's arrest took place in Campbell Bay, with ongoing coordination between local authorities and their counterparts in Haryana for further inquiries.

The turn of events saw a Haryana police team arriving in Port Blair on August 23. From there, they proceeded to Campbell Bay, where they collaborated with local law enforcement to orchestrate a meticulously executed operation leading to Selvan's apprehension.

On August 25, Selvan was transported to Port Blair and subsequently detained in the custody of Chatham police station. His transfer to Delhi and onward to Haryana is scheduled, with the process set to occur on Sunday.

This incident marks a significant occurrence where an individual has been captured in such a remote Andaman location for a murder charge by a mainland police team.
