Market crashes due to Trump's tariff, investors suffer huge losses

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the domestic stock market started with a decline.  Sensex opened with a fall of 281 points at 80,262.98, while the NSE Nifty fell 110 points.

Market Down: The shares of 26 companies opened in red i.e. with a decline, while shares of only 4 companies were seen in green with a rise. Similarly, shares of 40 out of 50 companies of Nifty registered losses, and shares of only 10 companies showed a rise.

The announcement of imposing 50% tariff on oil imports from Russia by US President Donald Trump did not have any direct impact on the Indian stock market. On Thursday, there was a slight decline in the market in the pre-opening of the market, which was also seen after opening. The growing uncertainty regarding international trade and energy prices has made the market breathless.

Trump did not have any direct impact on the Indian stock market

On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the domestic stock market started with a decline.  Sensex opened with a fall of 281 points at 80,262.98, while the NSE Nifty fell 110 points. The major reason for this decline in the market is US President Donald Trump's decision to impose an additional 25 percent tariff on India for buying oil from Russia.

Fall in Sensex

Though shares of 26 out of 30 Sensex companies opened with a decline, while the shares of only 4 companies were seen in the green mark with a rise. Similarly, shares of 40 out of 50 Nifty companies registered losses, and only 10 companies showed a rise.

Talking about shares, Maruti Suzuki shares rose the most by 0.36 percent, while Kotak Mahindra Bank shares saw the most decline of 1.21 percent. Trump's decision is creating panic in the market and investors are currently looking cautious.

Investors lost Rs 1 lakh crore

Due the stock market crash, thet cap of companies listed on the BSE Sensex fell by Rs 1.61 lakh crore. Earlier US President Trump had already imposed a 25 percent tariff on India. On Wednesday, Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariff on India. This has taken the total tariff on India to 50 percent.
