Mauritius PM & several high dignitaries to welcome PM Modi on arrival at airport

Mauritius Deputy Foreign Minister Hambirajan Narasinghan said that he is feeling honoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mauritius.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached Mauritius on his two-day visit. Prime Minister Modi was given a grand and warm welcome in Mauritius. Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam welcomed him by garlanding him at the airport. He was accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister, Chief Justice of Mauritius, Speaker of the National Assembly, Leader of the Opposition, Foreign Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Chairman of the Grand Port District Council and many others.

A total of 200 dignitaries were present to welcome the Prime Minister, including MPs, MLAs, diplomatic corps and religious leaders.

Officials said that during this visit starting from Tuesday, PM Modi will inaugurate more than 20 India-made projects, ranging from capacity building to community-based infrastructure projects.

Grand welcome for PM Modi in Mauritius

During this, PM Modi will inaugurate the Civil Services College building along with his counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam. The construction of this building has been completed at a cost of about $ 4.75 million. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed for this project in 2017.

Modi will also e-inaugurate 20 community projects and area health centers, which have been prepared at a cost of about Rs 7 crore. These community projects also include sports related infrastructure facilities.

'We feel honored'

PM Modi was given a warm welcome on his arrival at the airport. Mauritius Deputy Foreign Minister Hambirajan Narasimhan said that he is feeling honored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Mauritius. Describing it as a 'special occasion', he said that all 34 ministers will be present at the airport to welcome Prime Minister Modi. He said that PM Modi will be welcomed with pomp and show.

In an interview to ANI, Narasimhan recalled Prime Minister Modi's visit to Mauritius in 2015 and said that India is "a role model" for his country in many fields. He said, 'Modi is coming to Mauritius after more than 10 years. His last visit was in 2015.

Let us tell you that Prime Minister Modi left for Mauritius late on Monday night on a two-day state visit. He will participate as the chief guest in the National Day celebrations on March 12. In the meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry said that this visit is to "strengthen the enduring relations of India-Mauritius".

What did PM Modi say

Prime Minister Modi said on Monday before his Mauritius visit that this visit will open 'a new and bright' chapter in the relations between the two countries. Meanwhile, Mauritius Foreign Minister Dhananjay Ramful told news agency, that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a line of credit will be signed on March 12 during Prime Minister Modi's visit.

In 2016, India gave Mauritius a special economic package of $353 million. These include Metro Express project, Supreme Court building, new ENT hospital, social housing project and digital tablets for school children.

Deep relations between Mauritius and India

Mauritius is one of the smallest countries in the African continent. About 70 percent of the total population of 12 lakh here are of Indian origin. Before this visit, PM Modi has visited Mauritius once. PM Modi visited Mauritius in March 2015 on the occasion of National Day celebrations.
