Mountain cracked in Sikkim, 4 killed, 3 missing due to landslide… Rivers also in spate

Now a landslide incident occurred in Sikkim early on Friday, in which 4 people died and three people are still reported missing. A video of this time has also surfaced on social media, in which the police is trying to save the local people.

Landslide in Upper Rimbi of Yangthang constituency in West Sikkim led to debris and stones falling into the Hume river, due to which the river water swept away people's houses.

Mountains are cracking due to heavy rains

This incident of landslide has come to light from Upper Rimbi of Yangthang constituency of West Sikkim. Three people died on the spot due to the landslide. The police team, along with local villagers and SSB personnel, built a temporary bridge with wood from trees on the flooded Hume river and tried to evacuate people from the affected area. During this, they also succeeded in evacuating two women.

One woman died

SP Gejing Shering Sherpa, while giving information about the incident, said that 4 people died due to the landslide, out of which three people died on the spot, while two women were immediately rushed to the district hospital after being rescued from the river, but one woman died in the hospital during treatment. At the same time, the condition of the other woman remains critical.

Water entered the houses due to the rise in the Hume river

Along with this, SP Gezing Shering Sherpa also told that due to heavy rains, the mountains cracked and there was a massive landslide. After this, debris and stones came with the water, due to which the Hume river swelled. In such a situation, the water made its way and swept away the houses of the people. It has been raining heavily in Sikkim for two days. Now the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy rains in Sikkim in the future as well.

Heavy rain alert till September 17

There is a possibility of very heavy rains in Sikkim till September 17. Here, along with the Hume river, other rivers are also in spate due to heavy rains.

The situation has worsened due to heavy rains in the mountains. Many such incidents have come to light so far in the hilly states from Uttarakhand to Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, in which hundreds of people have died. There is an alert that the rain will continue in Uttarakhand and Himachal even further.
