Naxal hit village Kunded gets electricity after 20 years
On October 17, in a major development, Kunded Village of Sukma district in Chhattisgarh got access to electricity after 20 years.
Both, the village and the district were known to be dominated by Naxalites, and thus basic facilities, such as electricity and water could not reach the village.
According to a report by ANI, Kiran Chauhan, SP Sukma said "Kunded, a highly Naxal -affected village in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, got access to electricity after 20 years. the area is dominated by Naxalites".
The police officer gave the information that the area had access to electricity earlier, but the Naxalites took control of the region and destroyed roads and electricity poles, cutting the connections.
The SP said " once upon a time, the electricity supply in this area was smooth but with time the Naxalites has destroyed roads, electricity and all other types of connectivity in this entire area".
Security camp changed scenario
Police gave out the information that a security camp was opened in the area. The camp consisted of 165 battalions of CRPF and police personnel. These security personnel started working on changing the scenario of the area by improving security and initiating developmental works.
A ray of Light
The residents of this village and many others were literally living in darkness as they were deprived of such a basic right. The whole atmosphere of the area has changed, with light bringing hopes for good times. Slowly, the fear of Naxalites is also reducing in the area.
Sukma district- living in a tragic tale
It was in 1990s when the district of Sukma lost light. It was a time when the left wing extremist Naxals were on a mission to destroy the peace of the Sukma district. For this, they destroyed infrastructure depriving the residents of basic facilities. Destroying electricity poles was one of the tasks they undertook.
As per reports, the 342 families from 7 villages of Sukma district which had to suffer the consequences of the acts of Naxalites have now finally got access to electricity. These seven villages include Tumbangu, Singanpad, Dokpad, Pidmel, Ekalguda, Duramangu and Dabbakonta.
The government is committed to improve living conditions in the Naxal hit area and is therefore, planning to bring more development and connectivity to the area. Soon other villages will also be getting electricity. Several families were living on the electricity generated by Solar panels installed to their houses. The electricity generated by these would at least be able to run a fan or light a bulb, but even these require maintenance which the families are unable to continue, ending up without electricity.
