In an announcement on August 18 the National Disaster Alert Portal & Mobile App released  notice regarding the "Sachet" which is an alert application developed by the government to send alerts to citizens at times of disaster to help them take immediate actions. Often time, information about an upcoming disaster is not reached to everyone which leads to casualties and loss of life and infrastructure. This technology can prevent any such casualty to take place with immediate action taken.

The text message titled "Emergency alert: Severe'  popped on the smartphones of JIO and BSNL users on 17 August when this technology was tested. 'the technology of emergency cell broadcast technology is developed by C-DOT which is reportedly developing it in India.

This project is under The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) which has started testing this alert system.

The mobile applications of Sachet is available for android as well as IOS operating systems.

The alert message received by users was "This is a SAMPLE TESTING MESSAGE sent through Cell Broadcasting System by Department of Telecommunication, Government of India. Please ignore this message as no action is required from your end. This message has been sent to TEST Pan-India Emergency Alert System being implemented by National Disaster Management Authority. It aims to enhance public safety and provide timely alerts during emergencies." The messages were sent in both Hindi and English languages".

The cell broadcast technology is still underdevelopment and this will be tested throughout India.

This advancement of technology will be one step forward in digital India which would  help the whole country. These kinds of technologies will be able to save hundreds of lives lost at time of Natural disaster. We as human Kind cannot control Disaster and natural calamity, but this step is one step closer to preventing harm caused by such disaster.
