New 'Udaan Bhawan' Aims to Boost Aviation Regulatory Coordination in India
Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel Jyotiraditya M. Scindia inaugurated "Udaan Bhawan", and integrated office complex located at Safdarjan Airport in Delhi on Monday. The Union Minister inaugurated Udaan Bhawan in the presence of General (Dr.) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.), Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways & Civil Aviation, and Shri Vumlunmang Vualnam, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA). It will fulfill India's long standing need for a centralized office to facilitate closer coordination among various aviation regulatory authorities.
This new office will help different aviation regulators, like the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), and Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA), work together more effectively. The Airports Authority of India (AAI), which manages airports across India, will also benefit from this improved coordination.
At the same event, a pilot e-wallet service was launched to make it easier to pay fees for regulatory approvals through the Bharatkosh portal. This e-wallet allows users to add money in advance and get instant receipts and payment records.
Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel, said the Bharatkosh portal will make payments in the civil aviation ministry faster and more secure. He also stressed the importance of a positive work environment for increased productivity and comfort.
Gen (Dr.) V.K. Singh (Retd.), Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways & Civil Aviation, also highlighted the significance of launching the BharatKosh portal and Udaan Bhawan.
Shri Vumlunmang Vualnam, Secretary, MoCA, said that Udaan Bhawan will make it easier for different organizations to work together, leading to better coordination.
The new office has three floors above ground and three basement levels, providing space for 1270 officials. It cost Rs. 374.98 Crore to build and is designed with sustainability in mind. It uses natural light, energy-efficient LED lights, and other eco-friendly features.
Udaan Bhawan is also equipped with modern conference rooms, IT infrastructure, and convenient amenities like a yoga room, a creche, and electric vehicle charging.
