News UPI rules from April 1: PhonePe, Paytm, UPI will not work on these numbers

Rules have changed for those who do UPI using apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm from today i.e. 1st April. National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has recently given instructions to remove those mobile numbers linked to UPI from the bank account, which are not active for a long time i.e. are inactive.

 If your bank account also has an inactive mobile number linked, then you may face big problems in transacting through UPI.

According to the guidelines of NPCI, those bank accounts which have inactive mobile numbers linked to them may face problems in transacting through UPI.

NPCI's rule c hanged effective from today

NPCI has recently issued this new guideline in view of the increasing cases of cybercrime. National Payment Corporation says that mobile numbers which are not being used or are not active need to be removed from the banking and UPI system. These inactive numbers are creating technical problems. If telecom operators have issued these numbers in someone else's name, then the risk of fraud can increase through them.

Let us tell you that to use UPI, it is very important to link the mobile number with the bank account. While making UPI payment, the mobile number is the means of identification. Although it will ensure, that whenever you make a payment, Your money is reaching the right person or not.

Increasing cases of cyber crime

If such a number is no longer active or has been allotted to someone else, then there is a risk of payment failure. There is also a possibility of payment made on the user's number reaching someone else's account.

What to do?

>>Though, the phone number is linked to any of your bank accounts which is you have not recharged it for a long time, then you will have to confirm with your telecom service providers. Whether this number is active in your name or not.

>>Let’s understand like this, that if the old phone number is not active, right now then you should activate it immediately or change the mobile number of your bank account.

>>Recently, NPCI has instructed banks and UPI apps to update the list of deleted mobile numbers every week.

>>After1 of April, all the inactive mobile number is removed from the banking system.
