In a swift political move, Nitish Kumar, the leader of the Janata Dal (United), resigned as Bihar's chief minister on Sunday. Following the resignation, Kumar, along with MLAs, left the Governor's House. The resignation was accompanied by letters of support from BJP legislators, signaling a change in political leadership.

Governor Rajendra Arlekar accepted Nitish Kumar's resignation and requested him to continue administrative duties as the caretaker chief minister until a new government is formed. The oath-taking ceremony for the new government is scheduled for 5 pm today.

In a bid to avoid a power vacuum, Nitish Kumar is set to take oath as the Chief Minister for the ninth time, accompanied by two deputy chief ministers from the BJP. BJP national president JP Nadda is expected to arrive in Bihar later in the day to oversee the developments.

Contrary to rumors, Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Sinha have been confirmed as Nitish Kumar's deputies, according to Sumit Shashank, the BJP's spokesperson in the state. This decision follows the political churn witnessed earlier in the day.

Nitish Kumar, who had previously parted ways with the BJP in 2022, expressed dissatisfaction with the 'Mahagathbandhan' (grand alliance) formed a year and a half ago, stating that the state of affairs was not favorable.

The seasoned politician, who first became Chief Minister in 2000 after campaigning against Lalu Prasad Yadav's 'Jungle Raaj', has had a dynamic political journey. Nitish Kumar broke ties with the NDA in 2013 over the selection of Narendra Modi as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate. He later formed a grand alliance with the RJD and Congress in 2015, only to exit in 2017, citing corruption allegations against the RJD.

In 2022, Nitish Kumar once again severed ties with the BJP, alleging conspiracy and attempts to influence JD-U MLAs against him. As the political landscape in Bihar evolves, Nitish Kumar remains a central figure in the state's political dynamics.
