No PCB official at Champions Trophy final presentation, host board asks ICC to explain

ICC vs PCB: The Champions Trophy (Champions Trophy 2025) has concluded. India won the title by defeating New Zealand in the final and has also returned to its homeland with the trophy. But there is still a ruckus about the prize distribution ceremony held after the final. Actually, no PCB official was seen on the stage, many former Pakistani cricketers and people were raising questions about this.

Now the ICC has given the reason for this while responding to this

4 officials including ICC President Jay Shah were present on the stage after Team India won the final match. BCCI President Roger Binny and Secretary Devjit Saikia along with New Zealand Director Roger Twose were present in this.

After seeing this, the first question raised by former Pakistani cricketers and some people was that why despite being the host, their board (PCB) official was not present on the stage. They called it unfortunate.

ICC gave the answer

ICC spokesperson while talking to Geo TV said that ICC had made arrangements to call PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi on the stage for the award distribution ceremony, but he did not arrive.

According to the rule, ICC can only call the head of the host board for this. Like President, Vice President, Chairman or CEO. Other board officials, even if they are present at the venue, cannot be a part of the proceedings on the stage.

Earlier, former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram had expressed displeasure over the absence of PCB official on the stage and said, "Chairman sahab was not well. But there was no one on the stage from PCB's side.

Sumair Ahmed and Usman came from there. But both of them were not seen. So, whoever was hosting the event, he should have been there. Was he not called on stage?''

India became champions, Pakistan in bad shape

Pakistan, the host of Champions Trophy, was eliminated from the group stage of the tournament. It lost both the opening matches, and the last match was cancelled due to rain. India had won all the matches of the group stage. After defeating Australia in the semi-finals, Rohit Sharma and team won the title by defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final.
