During the next five
days, there is likely to be moderate to pretty widespread to widespread rain
over northwest India, with a few spots of heavy rain. The heavy rain that has
been falling on the west coast, especially in Konkan, Goa, and Gujarat, is
expected to end on Friday. On the other hand, rain is expected to increase in
the north of the country on July 9, according to the India Meteorological
Department (IMD).

The summer trough is to
the south of where it would normally be. A shear zone that moves from east to
west runs along South Peninsular India.

At mean sea level, the
off-shore trough runs from the south coast of Gujarat to the north coast of
Kerala.

In the lower
troposphere, a cyclonic circulation is over Gangetic West Bengal and north
Odisha, which is right next to it.

According to Mahesh Palawat, vice
president, of climate and meteorology at Skymet Weather, a
big monsoon wave
over the area will keep bringing heavy rain to the west coast for two more
days. Over north Pakistan and Punjab, there is a cyclonic flow of air. The
monsoon trough is south of where it usually is, which helps bring easterly
winds from the Bay of Bengal.

Another cyclonic circulation over Gujarat helps
bring southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea.

From Uttarakhand to
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and the Indo-Gangetic Plains, the conditions are
favourable for precipitation to fall over a large portion of north and
northwest India over the next five days. The Western Himalayas are also
impacted by a moderate western storm, which will increase precipitation.

In the South Peninsular
region, light to moderate widespread precipitation with isolated heavy to very
heavy precipitation is anticipated to continue for the next two days before
diminishing.

In the next five days,
moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated torrential
precipitation is likely over northwest India.

Extremely probable over
Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan over the next five days, as well as West Uttar
Pradesh over the next two days, is the occurrence of isolated very heavy
rainfall.
