Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean President Kim Jong Un engaged in extensive discussions, spanning over 4 hours, on Wednesday. The high-stakes meeting took place at Russia's Vostochny Cosmodrome in the far east of the country.

Amid growing concerns expressed by US officials about the possibility of a military arms deal between Russia and North Korea, discussions turned to military-technical cooperation during the summit. Putin acknowledged the existence of international sanctions but hinted at the potential for cooperation in various areas.

"While there are certain restrictions, and Russia complies with all these restrictions," Putin stated in an interview with state-owned Russia 1, "there are things that we can, of course, talk about, discuss, think about it. And here too, there are prospects," he added.

During a state dinner, Kim expressed confidence in the Russian people and their military's ability to confront "evil forces" pursuing hegemony and expansion, without explicitly mentioning Ukraine. He commended Moscow for its stance against perceived hegemonic forces, indirectly referring to the US and the West.

In response, Putin expressed his readiness to assist North Korea in advancing its space and satellite program, emphasizing their shared interest in space exploration. "The leader of North Korea shows great interest in space, in rocketry, and they are trying to develop space. We'll show our new objects," Putin affirmed.

Despite external criticism, the Kremlin reaffirmed its commitment to fostering beneficial relationships with neighboring countries, as highlighted by Kremlin spokesperson Peskov. Notably, Kim Jong Un's delegation included key military figures subject to international sanctions, underscoring the complexity of the diplomatic engagement.

In a surprising move, North Korea conducted a missile test shortly before the summit, launching two short-range ballistic missiles into the waters off the Korean Peninsula's east coast. This provocative action, occurring while Kim was in Russia for the meeting, underscored North Korea's dedication to maintaining military readiness amidst diplomatic discussions.
