New Railway Ticket Booking Rule: Now booking of rail tickets can be done only 60 days in advance. Earlier this booking used to be done 120 days in advance. The new rule will come into effect from November 1.

It will not affect the reservation done till October 31. However, the Railways has not given the logic behind this move.

However, all bookings made till October 31, 2024 under the advance reserve period of 120 days will remain intact.

No change in rules for foreign tourists

All though cancellation of bookings made beyond the 60-day advance reserve period will be allowed. Also, trains which already have a short advance reserve period will not be affected.

Railway ticket booking rule highlights 

Currently, a short time limit for advance reservation is already applicable in these trains. There will be no change in the case of the 365-day limit for foreign tourists.

Here we let you know, that potential tickets made four months in advance often get cancelled. There is a higher chance of not getting cancelled if the 2-month advance reservation is made.

Also, a large number of important reservations can be avoided.

Railways changed the rules for advance ticket booking

However, the new rules for advance train ticket booking will not have any effect on the already booked tickets. Currently.

Meanwhile ticket booking is done through IRCTC website, app and railway booking counters. 12.38 lakh tickets are booked every day from IRCTC.

Indian railways had extended the advance reservation period - In 2015

However the  government had then argued for extending the booking period to 120 days that extending the period would discourage brokers. As it would entail higher cancellation charges.

Even though many people had then argued that the purpose of the Railways in extending the reservation period is to earn additional revenue.

IRCTC's earnings from interest and cancellation will be less

IRCTC's earnings from interest and cancellation will be less due to the reduction in advance reservation period. Its effect is also visible on its shares.

The company's share closed down by about 2.5% at Rs 870. The share has fallen by 6% in a month. The company's market cap is about Rs 70 thousand crores.

IRCTC was included in the Indian Railways in 1999

Though IRCTC was incorporated as a branch of Indian Railways on 27 September 1999. Its objective is to manage catering and hospitality at stations, trains and other places.
