Oman Sultan Haitham bin Tarik arrived in India for three day visit
Oman's Sultan Haitham bin Tarik embarked on a significant three-day state visit to India, commencing on Friday. The ceremonial reception unfolded at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where Union Minister V. Muraleedharan welcomed the Sultan upon his arrival. President Droupadi Murmu extended the invitation for this diplomatic venture.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Murmu greeted Sultan Haitham bin Tarik at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday, where he inspected a Guard of Honour by the combined defense services. The leaders then engaged in bilateral talks at Hyderabad House, followed by a luncheon hosted by Prime Minister Modi.
Reflecting on the visit, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi expressed optimism, stating that Sultan Haitham's visit would further enhance the enduring friendship and cooperation between India and Oman. The MEA emphasized the historic roots of the 5,000-year-old people-to-people contact between the two nations.
Establishing diplomatic ties in 1955, India and Oman elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership in 2008. Oman holds the unique position of being India's closest defense partner in the Gulf region, with defense cooperation emerging as a pivotal aspect of their strategic partnership.
India extended a special invitation to Oman to participate in the G20 Summit and associated meetings under India's G20 Presidency. Oman actively engaged in over 150 working group meetings during the summit, with nine ministers representing the country in various G20 ministerial meetings. This visit by Sultan Haitham bin Tarik signifies a significant milestone in the diplomatic relations between New Delhi and Muscat, reinforcing the enduring ties between the two nations.
