"Operation Talaash" initiative of Noida Police Commissioner Laxmi Singh, fake SIM sellers & cyber criminals will be curbed
Noida Police: To crack down on cyber crimes in Noida, Greater Noida - Gautam Buddha Nagar Police has started a major action under “Operation Talaash”. On Friday, a campaign was launched against shopkeepers selling SIM cards in various police station areas of Central Noida. During this, strict checking was done at Point of Sale (POS) along with physical verification.
Shops were inspected in many police station areas including Surajpur, Bisrakh, Badalpur.
Fake SIM cards are the root of rapidly increasing cyber crimes
Police investigation has revealed that fake SIM cards are being used in many cyber crimes like digital arrest, fake investment, espionage, UPI fraud, and fake advertisements. Criminals are committing fraud across the country by buying fake SIMs at cheap rates.
Strict monitoring of Noida Police Commissionerate
Meanwhile on the instructions of Noida Commissioner Laxmi Singh and Additional Commissioner of Police Law and Order Dr. Rajiv Narayan Mishra, Noshops were inspected in many police station areas including Surajpur, Bisrakh, Badalpur. Police asked the shopkeepers for details of the SIMs sold daily and gave priority to the verification process.

Central DCP Shakti Mohan Awasthi said that the purpose of the campaign is to identify those dealers and shopkeepers who are helping cyber criminals by selling fake or pre-activated SIM cards. Strict action will be taken against them.

Police investigation has revealed the shocking fact that many SIMs are activated at the customer's address on the pretext of getting KYC done. Dealers deliberately show KYC as failed the first time and then repeat the same process the second time, and then issue another SIM in the same name and address, which the customer is not aware of it.
Pre –activated SIM scam going on in the name of KYC
Recently, the police have arrested several cyber criminals involved in investment and UPI fraud. During interrogation, it was revealed that the criminals were breaking into people's bank accounts using SIM cards obtained through fake KYC.
