UP BJP president election: Union Minister and seven-time Lok Sabha MP from Maharajganj, Pankaj Chaudhary, was declared the new BJP state president of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday. Union Minister and Uttar Pradesh election in-charge Piyush Goyal formally announced his name at a program held at the party office in Lucknow in the presence of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The program began with Vedic chants, the blowing of conch shells, and drum beats, after which Pankaj Chaudhary assumed charge as the new state president.
Outgoing state president Chaudhary Bhupendra Singh handed over the party flag to the newly appointed president Pankaj Chaudhary.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Election In-charge Piyush Goyal, Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, along with several other senior UP BJP leaders, were present at the event. After the announcement of his name for the UP BJP president post, Pankaj Chaudhary reached the stage, where senior BJP leaders congratulated him. Pankaj Chaudhary, a seven-time MP from Maharajganj and Union Minister of State for Finance, belongs to the Kurmi community. His appointment as state president is being seen as a BJP strategy to strengthen the OBC vote bank in UP before the 2027 assembly elections.

Earlier on Saturday, Pankaj Chaudhary had filed his nomination for the post as the sole candidate, which was approved unopposed. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with both Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, were his proposers. Chaudhary will have the major responsibility of further strengthening the BJP organization in UP and ensuring the party's victory in the 2027 assembly elections. Since no other leader had filed a nomination, Pankaj Chaudhary's election as the UP BJP president was certain.
120 members from UP in the BJP National Council
Along with the UP BJP state president, the election of 120 members from the state to the National Council has also been completed. Rajnath Singh, Yogi Adityanath, Brajesh Pathak, Keshav Prasad Maurya, Bhupendra Chaudhary, Smriti Irani, Surya Pratap Shahi, Swatantra Dev Singh, and Ramapati Ram Tripathi have been elected as members of the BJP's National Council from Uttar Pradesh.
