During their meeting at COP28 in Dubai, PM Modi highlighted collaborative efforts between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future. He stated, "Met PM @GiorgiaMeloni of Italy on the sidelines of the #COP28 Summit. Looking forward to collaborative efforts between India and Italy for a sustainable and prosperous future."
PM Modi also engaged with other world leaders, including UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Barbados counterpart Mia Amor Mottley, French President Emmanuel Macron, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and UK PM Rishi Sunak during his visit to Dubai.
Addressing the impact of climate change on the Global South, PM Modi emphasized the importance of climate finance and technology to fulfill the aspirations of these nations.
This marked PM Modi's third appearance at the World Climate Action Summit, following his visits to Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021. The COP28 Summit, held under the Presidency of the UAE, takes place from November 28 to December 12.
The meeting between PM Modi and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is not the first, as they previously met on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in New Delhi. Italy's support for India's G20 Presidency and their elevation to a Strategic Partnership during a State visit to India in March 2023 were significant milestones. The leaders reviewed progress in various areas of the India-Italy Strategic Partnership, emphasizing cooperation in defense and new technologies. They also underscored the importance of G7 and G20 aligning with global interests for the greater good.
