Prime Minister remembers JP, shares Loknayak's 'Jail Diary'
Prime Minister: Today, India remembers Jayaprakash Narayan, a great leader of the freedom struggle and the Emergency period. Born on October 11, 1902, Jayaprakash Narayan was an Indian freedom fighter and politician, best known for leading the opposition against Indira Gandhi in 1970. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to him on this occasion.

Narendra Modi shared some photos from Jayaprakash Narayan's archives on Instagram, including pages from his book, Jail Diary, written during the Emergency. Narendra Modi said, "During the Emergency, Loknayak JP spent many days alone in jail. His jail diary reflects his suffering and unwavering faith in democracy."
JP had an unwavering love for Indian democracy.
Jayaprakash Narayan had complete faith and love for Indian democracy and the law. He even went to jail for this. During Indira Gandhi's Emergency in 1970, he emerged as a major activist, his fight being to save Indian democracy. In his book, Jail Diary, he wrote, "Every nail driven into the coffin of Indian democracy is like a nail driven into my heart."
Amit Shah and JP Nadda also paid tribute
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP President JP Nadda also paid tribute to Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on his birth anniversary. Amit Shah said that Jayaprakash Narayan strengthened India's democratic structure by upholding the ideals of equality, social harmony, and justice.

He also said that during the Emergency, despite immense struggle and hardship, Jayaprakash Narayan protected democratic values and inspired the country to rise against the Emergency. The Home Minister further said that the Total Revolution movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan was based on the spirit of people's power and selfless service. Shah also urged every social worker to remain vigilant throughout their lives against authoritarian tendencies.
