Protesting farmers in Karnataka took crocodile to govt office against irregular power cuts

In a strange protest, Farmers in Vijayapura district of Karnataka took a crocodile to the office of Hubli Electricity Supply Company (HESCOM) to protest against the irregular power cuts.  Huli Electricity Supply Company is a state-run electricity company. The irregular power cuts have disrupted the agricultural work of farmers and have subjected them to the danger of wild animals.

Farmers took the crocodile with them to demonstrate the danger faced by them when they were exposed to such deadly animals. In order to make the officials understand their situation, they carried the crocodile to the office of HESCOM.

A farmer spotted the animal in his field while he went there to water his field at night when electricity was restored in the area. According to media reports, the crocodile came to the field from the closely located Krishna River. After spotting the crocodile, the villagers tied it and took it to the office of HESCOM after loading it onto a trolly.

The farmers demanded regular electricity supply during the day time.

The HESCOM officials were shocked at the arrival of the crocodile and thus called police and forest officials to take the reptile from there. The officials also assured the protesting villagers about the regular electricity supply during the daytime.

The crocodile was safely released into the Almatti Dam by forest officials.

According to the Department of irrigation, sparse rainfall this year led to water scarcity for irrigation as dams are not carrying the amount of water that is needed to be released for irrigational purposes. As a result of sparse rainfall, farmers are left to be dependent on borewell which consumes a high amount of electricity. Since farmers were not getting continuous electricity supply during the day time, they were not able to undertake irrigational tasks properly.
