PTI founder Imran Khan and wife sentenced to 14 years in Jail in Toshakhana Case
Imran Khan: An Accountability Court (AC) in Pakistan delivered a significant verdict on Wednesday, sentencing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 years in jail in the Toshakhana case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a reference against the couple on December 19 last year, leading to this legal development.

Disqualification and Heavy Fine Imposed
AC Judge Muhammad Bashir not only handed down the prison sentence but also disqualified Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi from holding any public office for a period of ten years. Additionally, a substantial fine of Pakistani rupee (PKR) 787 million was imposed on the defendants.
Court Proceedings and Imran Khan's Response
In the courtroom during Wednesday's hearing, Imran Khan was present, while Bushra Bibi did not make an appearance. When questioned about his statement of 342, the former prime minister responded, "The statement is in the room; I was only called to appear before the court." The judge directed Khan to submit his statement promptly, stating, "Don't waste court time." Khan mentioned that his lawyers had not arrived yet and left the courtroom after expressing his intention to submit the statement after consulting with them.
Bushra Bibi Surrenders After Verdict
Following the NAB court's verdict, former first lady Bushra Bibi reached Adiala Jail to surrender before the anti-corruption team. Despite her absence in the courtroom during the hearing, she arrived at the jail in her car to surrender, where she was subsequently arrested by the ladies' police.
Toshakhana Case's Political Impact
The Toshakhana case has become a focal point in national politics, especially after the Election Commission of Pakistan disqualified Imran Khan last year for making "false statements and incorrect declaration." This latest development adds to the political turmoil surrounding the PTI founder.
Additional Legal Blow for Imran Khan
This comes on the heels of another legal setback for Imran Khan, as a special court established under the Official Secrets Act sentenced him and his foreign minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, to 10 years in prison for the breach of state secrets. Special Court Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain delivered the verdict in the cipher case, following the recording of statements under Section 342 during Tuesday's hearing.
