Ready to Look Into It: PM Modi Addresses US Allegations on Pannun Killing Plot

During an interview with the UK-based Financial Times, PM Modi stated, "If someone gives us any information, we would definitely look into it. If a citizen of ours has done anything good or bad, we are ready to look into it. Our commitment is to the rule of law."
Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, designated a 'designated individual terrorist' by the Indian government in 2020, has been actively promoting the cause of Khalistan on social media, challenging India's sovereignty. NIA investigations have focused on Pannun since 2019, with concerns over his influence on Punjab-based gangsters and youth.
Addressing broader concerns, PM Modi voiced India's deep worries about certain extremist groups operating overseas. He emphasized that these elements, under the guise of freedom of expression, engage in intimidation and incite violence. The Prime Minister underscored the importance of strengthening the relationship between the US and India, highlighting the key role of security and counter-terrorism cooperation in their partnership.
Regarding recent incidents and their potential impact on diplomatic relations, PM Modi remarked, "I don't think it is appropriate to link a few incidents with diplomatic relations between the two countries."
These statements come after the US Justice Department's claim that an Indian government employee recruited an individual to hire a hitman for an alleged assassination plot against Pannun, which was reportedly foiled by US authorities. PM Modi's response signals India's commitment to addressing the matter through proper legal channels.
