Recent survey claims Indians to be receiving nearly 12 scam texts or emails per day
According to a recent survey, Indians receive nearly 12 scam texts or emails per day. These, frequently disguised as "legitimate communication," cause significant stress and financial strain, as consumers utilize an average of 1.8 hours per week verifying message authenticity, according to News18.
According to the McAfee 2023 Scam report, the study looks into the increasing sophistication of fraudulent messages driven by artificial intelligence (AI), examining over 7,000 adults in seven countries, including India.
The findings highlight the critical need for AI-driven defense solutions to combat increasing AI-powered scams.
Because of the volume and sophistication of scam messages, the average Indian spends 105 minutes per week determining the authenticity of received messages.
Approximately 90% of Indians admit to receiving fake messages or scams on a daily basis via email and text, with 84% reporting the same on social media.
As scam messages become more sophisticated, 82% of Indians click on or fall for them.
They were most convinced by the following messages:
- Information about a purchase that the recipient did not make
- False notification of a missed delivery or a delivery problem
- "You've won a prize!"
- Messages confirming sign-in and location
- Amazon security alerts or account update notification messages
- Subscription updates for Netflix (or a similar streaming service)
