The Central Government has released data on road accidents for the year 2022. A total of 4,61,312 road accidents were recorded in India last year as per the report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways .

Lakhs lost lives on the roads

According to the report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the death toll in these accidents has reached 1,68,491. Along with this, about 4.45 lakh people were also injured in these accidents. Let us tell you that this number (Road Accident Data) has increased by 12 percent compared to the year 2021. While the death toll has increased by 9.4 percent.

More deaths are occurring due to these reasons

Speed ​​is the number one factor in accidents. Along with this, this is the reason for about 75 percent of the accidents that occurred in 2022. Apart from this , 6 percent accidents have occurred due to driving in the wrong direction. Drunk driving and talking on phone while driving is also proving dangerous for people. In these figures, there are more than 4 percent people who have met with accidents due to this reason.

Last year, around 70,000 people lost their lives in India (Road Accident Data) due to not following road safety rules. 17,000 people lost their lives due to not wearing seat belts. At the same time, more than 50,000 two-wheeler drivers also died due to not wearing helmets.

More accidents are happening on expressways

According to the report released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) , 33 percent of these accidents (Road Accident Data) have occurred on expressways. In such a situation, road users will have to pay attention that whether it is on a national highway or an expressway, they will have to follow the rules of the road.
