SEWA will work to tackle the challenges of rising climate Change

Climate change like – cyclones, floods, heatwaves, droughts, and cold waves are increasingly impacting human lives around the world, this impact is most severe on the poor in the Global South who do not have the means to deal with these impacts; poor women are particularly vulnerable given the endemic social and economic disadvantages they face already. As a result, most suffered are vulnerable women and workers across the globe, The most vulnerable segments comprise people mostly women and workers who are largely outside the very limited social safety nets and insurance protections available in developing countries. In order to help not only help these vulnerable people around us but also help our mother Earth, the idea of Climate resilience through climate action was born through Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) on their 50th-year celebration on April 12th, 2022 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat which has now helped them to build even cleaner skies for the next 50 year…Also Read:

Secretary Hillary Clinton, Ambassador Melanne Verveer and other global women leaders at the Women Leader’s Summit meeting at Bellagio in July 2022, highlighted the need for the global community to take accelerated and directly targeted positive and practical steps to address the challenge of climate change faced by the poor women workers of the Global South. The Clinton Foundation and its Clinton Global Initiative under Secretary Clinton’s leadership, has accordingly taken the initiative to launch Global Climate Resilience Fund for Women. The Fund will seek to build Climate Resilience amongst poor women in the Global South and will seek to replicate and build on the success of SEWA in launching and executing such initiatives for its members in India.
Talking a bit about the funds raised, it is the Country’s 1st und raised by women for women and workers. The Global Climate Resilience Fund for Women is also first-ever fund created on the basis of climate justice. The fund raised would be used to replicate and upscale SEWA’s successful approach to climate action in support of women micro-entrepreneurs and address the challenges of disproportionately high climate impacts faced by women in the Global South.
Main Aim:
Main aim of Global Climate Resilience Fund for women is to reach out to millions of women workers in India and beyond to let them move ahead on their path of mitigation and adaptation. The initial fund has come from the poor women and workers from their savings for their own use and for use of all the other sister women workers across India and beyond.
The Global Climate Resilience Fund for women is being announced on 6th February 2023 that is today, by Secretary Hillary Clinton, in the desert salt pans in the presence of thousands of SEWA members – the informal sector women workers who have gathered from across India.
