SkyDrive soars into Vibrant Gujarat: Japan's flying car pioneer targets Indian market
Japan's pioneering flying car manufacturer, SkyDrive, made its presence felt at the ongoing Vibrant Gujarat event in Ahmedabad, unveiling its innovative transport solutions. The SkyDrive flying car, measuring approximately 11.5 m x 11.3 m x 3 m, boasts futuristic design elements, including composite and aluminum alloy construction. With a seating capacity for three (1 pilot and 2 passengers), the battery-electric sky car weighs around 1,400 kg.
Reaching a maximum air speed of 100 km per hour and a flying range of approximately 15 km, SkyDrive envisions the introduction of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) services in India. Tomohiro Fukuzawa, CEO of SkyDrive, emphasized the commitment to renewable energy, stating, "It is difficult to have an airport in urban areas, but it can take off and land on the top of buildings, so we can use air taxis in our daily lives."
Fukuzawa expressed the company's interest in establishing production plants in India, foreseeing the potential of the market. He stated, "Of course, we want to make the product reasonable and bring it near to the market. So, we believe in India there are so many problems...so these kinds of vehicles will be useful. In that case, we want to have a plant here in India and have a market in India too."
Founded in July 2018, SkyDrive has been actively pursuing its vision of making eVTOLs a part of daily transportation globally. The company, in collaboration with Japanese automaker Suzuki, aims to create a future where electric flying vehicles are accessible to everyone. Following successful flight tests in Japan in 2019, SkyDrive is poised to revolutionize the transportation landscape.
